Jean-Marie Massaud – inspired by nature

With his nature-inspired design, French designer and architect Jean-Marie Massaud has a unique style. Not only is his work heavily influenced by the harmony and beauty of our blue planet, it also demonstrates enormous variation. His work ranges from concept cars to flying hotels, from interior design to major architectural projects, from one-off items to series production. Massaud's objective is to create a holistic effect – along with better living spaces: “I'm aware that somewhere behind the cold, hard economic facts are the users themselves. People. I try to take an honest, generous approach.” Top brands such as Renault or Toyota, B&B Italia or Poltrona Frau, Paloma Picasso or Lancôme all place their confidence in the ideas that come out of the Studio Massaud in Paris. “More than ever before, we are living at a frantic pace, constantly stressed and overstimulated. Is that really what we want?”, asks Massaud, with his work providing the answer: no way, most definitely not.

“I believe that design can evoke positive feelings.”

Jean-Marie Massaud became world-famous for his “Estadio Omnilife” (2010). The sensational football stadium, which was designed to look like a volcano, is situated close to the Mexican city of Guadalajara, which has over a million inhabitants. His bathroom of the future is also an organic landscape. Massaud accomplished this in 2005 in the form of an Axor WaterDream. This vision gave rise to the Axor Massaud bathroom collection. Showers offering a refreshing downpour, bath tubs that turn into lakes, mixers featuring gushing waterfalls: water really could not be orchestrated in a more sensuous way. Massaud has been showered with awards for these designs: Interior Innovation Award (2015), Wallpaper Design Award (2014), “Designer of the Year” (2007, 2009) and lots more. His work is accompanied by monographic books and exhibitions, from Paris to Tokyo.

Avantgarde, poetic, playful – yet highly functional

Exciting contrast between zeitgeist and sustainability

Jean-Marie Massaud's expressive concepts are pioneering: his focus is consistently on human and ecological progress and bringing new life to a theme. His design artistry combines zeitgeist and tradition, elegance and comfort, sustainability and enjoyment, in a very unique way. This is the case whether he is designing sofas, showrooms or hotels, bathrooms, cars or perfume bottles. Massaud was born in 1966 in Toulouse in the South of France – a centre of high-tech industry, but also a gateway to the sensuous South. Perhaps it is this exciting contrast that is featured in his designs – and which drew him to Paris as a young man, to the University for Industrial Design. In 1990 he graduated from the “ENSCI/Les Ateliers”, began his career in Hong Kong, founded a studio in Paris and became one of the big names on the international design scene. In the Massaud design studio, at least six other designers work closely with the proprietor.
